Tolerance Week -- Student Event (open to the public)

The Tolerance Week student event is on April 10, 2024. The event begins at 9:30 am and is open to the public. 1,800 area students will see a short version of the film Paper Clips and hear a talk by Sioux Cit native Elyn Shindler Moldow, daughter of Holocaust Survivor Sam Shindler. The Holocaust Rails exhibit is reopening this week for field trips and there will be docents present on the weekends until the end of the school year. The Sioux City Jewish exhibit has been expanded and dedicated to Rabbi Guy Greene thanks to the generosity of the Sioux City Jewish Federation and Congregation Beth Shalom. There is a new Eternal Flame in memory of all who perished in the Holocaust as well as a display surrounding an original photo book gifted to the Museum by Jim Sherman. An additional new exhibit includes creme cans and documents, representing what some families did to try to preserve papers and photos, placing them in creme cans and burying them, hoping someday to return to find them. Most never did. The Holocaust Rails exhibit is open Thursday-Saturdays 10 - 4 and 12 - 4 on Sundays.
